Preparing for a Dumpster Drop-Off
If you’re planning some sort of home clean-out, or remodeling project that requires a dumpster, you’ll want to make sure you have a sufficient space to put it. Preparing a location for the dumpster to go can save some time when the driver shows up for delivery. So where can you put a dumpster?
Places to Avoid:
- Steep hills. As the dumpster could shift or move causing safety hazards.
- Soft or sandy surfaces, as the truck could get stuck trying to drop off or pick up
- City street, as a permit may be required.
Choosing a Location:
First, you’ll want to take into consideration which size you’ll be ordering to pick a location that will be big enough. The best place for a dumpster is a flat, hard surface such as a concrete or asphalt driveway, parking lot, or street. It can even be placed on hard packed dirt. If you need to place it on a softer surface, you can create a plywood base to ensure your dumpster will be sturdy on the ground. Whether you’re going to place it on concrete or grass, the base will add protection.
You’ll want to place the dumpster in a place that can be easily accessed by workers and crew. If it’s too far away, this will discourage contractors from keeping a clean site, as it becomes more convenient to just leave waste scattered around. You’ll also want it in an accessible spot so it can be easily picked up when you’re done. Clear all obstructions that may get in the drivers way- vehicles, debris, tools, etc. This will ensure the delivery process goes as smooth as possible.
Unsure if the location you’ve selected will be a viable option? Check beforehand with your rental company to ensure it will work. This way, you’ll have time to think of a Plan-B in case it will not work.
